We opted for the more direct 9 mile, point-to-point, route from Tewksbury to Bedford, with most of it on Pond St.
Finished the run in 1 hr 3 mins for an overall 6:59 pace. Cody felt great, and I suggested that he put in a few more of these marathon pace runs before Baystate in order to get ready for that BQ'er.
When I prepped for Portland last year, I had averaged about 30-40 miles per week, but ran every training run at marathon pace (which I think is more important than total weekly mileage) leading up to that BQ'er.
It looks like the plan is for me to pace Cody and Andy, and whoever else in our age group that wishes to run a sub 3:10:59, at Baystate.
(Should have thought of this up in Sugarloaf)
Your right about the pace over miles - both are important - but locking in the feel of the marathon pace is a key element.
